Expectations of Hiring a Drone Pilot
At AirpiX, we know that whether you’re booking a simple roof inspection or a detailed aerial mapping project, it might be your first time hiring a drone pilot. The rules and regulations around drone operations can seem complicated - but that’s our job to handle, not yours.
We’ve created this page to guide you through what to expect from a professional drone service, and what standards should be in place. Our goal is to make the whole process clear, straightforward, and stress-free for you.

Your Peace Of Mind
At AirpiX, Safety Comes First
Even if you choose another drone provider, your safety and others should never be compromised.
Before hiring a drone pilot, take
a moment to confirm they are properly licensed and legally authorised to operate.
It’s a simple check that protects you, your project, and the public.
Ask your Pilot for their Flyer and Operator ID and you can check them on the CAA website to see if they are legally registered to fly a drone, not just commercially but if they wish to fly personally as well.
Find Out what your Preferred Pilot legally requires to operate a Drone before they quote to you.
Remember if they are working commercially and flying a drone under 20kg for professional or paid work, they must have commercial Drone Insurance that complies
with EC 785/2004.
This includes mandatory public liability cover to ensure they meet legal and operational standards set out by the Civil Aviation Authority
If You are planning to hire a Drone Pilot, you can check to see if you are within a Flight Restriction Area
If you are this means that your Pilot will have to legally request permission from the Authorities
to fly in that restricted area.
As an example Lee on the Solent Airport charges £35 each time to fly a drone within their Restricted air space.
If you do require your pilot to fly within a Restricted Area, Check that they have permission to fly within that area, otherwise they will be flying illegally and could cause a collison with crewed aviation.
Whats the Weather like?
Want to know whether AirpiX can fly on your booked day? We use Zoom Earth as our online Weather planning Tool.

or holiday abroad.
Zoom provides live cloud cover, rainfall radar, wind patterns, and severe weather updates in an

AirpiX is not associated with Zoom Earth. We use it because its good!
